BeritaTerkini.Info : President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) summoned the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbud Ristek) Nadiem Makarim to the Presidential Palace, Jakarta. The meeting resulted in the decision to cancel the increase in single tuition fees (UKT), which was criticized by various groups.
Monitoring at the State Palace, Monday (27/5/2024), Nadiem arrived at 13.22 WIB. He wore cream colored batik.
"Discuss several educational issues that the President wants to report to," said Nadiem at the Palace.
When asked whether one of the discussions was about single tuition fees (UKT), Nadiem confirmed.
"Yes (discussing UKT), there are several issues," he continued.
Nadiem said that the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology had officially canceled the UKT increase. He will also review proposals for increasing UKT from each university.

He said that his party would evaluate all requests for UKT increases from universities.
"We will evaluate all requests for UKT increases from PTNs. So this year no students will be affected by the UKT increase and we will evaluate one by one PT requests or requests for UKT increases, but that is for the following year," he explained.
Nadiem admitted that he had heard aspirations about increasing the nominal UKT. Nadiem felt worried seeing the UKT increase.
"In recent days we have listened to all the aspirations of various stakeholders. So I have heard the aspirations of various students, families and the community regarding their concerns regarding the UKT increases taking place at PTNs," said Nadiem at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday (27/5/2024).
Nadiem admitted that he had seen the figures for the increase in UKT on campus which students complained was expensive. He is worried about the nominal increase in UKT.
"And indeed I saw some of the numbers and that also made me quite worried," he explained.
Nadiem added that with the decision to cancel the UKT increase, no students would be affected. He emphasized that if the campus wants to increase tuition fees, it must pay attention to the principles of justice and fairness.
